ISLAMABAD: The decision on the specific seats of the Sunni Ittehad Council in the National Assembly could not be decided even today.
Under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan, a hearing was held on the issue of specific seats of Sunni Ittehad Council, in which MQM chief Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui represented Farogh Naseem, PP Farooq Naik, Sunni Ittehad Council. Ali Zafar and Azam Nazir of (N) League presented arguments while senior PTI leader Barrister Gohar also appeared.
Ali Zafar argued that we have come here for our specific seat, if political parties want to take seats, they should say openly that we want to take this seat, MQM, PP and (N) League as a party. Come and claim, I object if someone like that comes and says this seat is mine, he cannot get a seat.
Meanwhile, PP’s lawyer Farooq Naik said that we are acting as a political party, the commission has to decide whether the Sunni Unity Council can get this specific seat or not.
Ali Zafar said that no one has the right to take my seat, my request for reserved seats is also there, meanwhile PTI’s senior leader Barrister Gohar said that our request for reserved seats should also be scheduled for hearing.
The Chief Election Commissioner said that the Election Commission has fixed the petitions for hearing, Ali Zafar sir, you are a party in all these cases.
Azam Nazir Tarar said in his arguments that the Sunni Ittehad Council did not win a single seat, how can a specific seat be given by gathering some independent members in this party? They came through a party which was rejected by the people, they did not submit the application for reserved seats first, Sunni Ittehad Council is not a parliamentary party, how can they give reserved seats to it.
On the arguments of Azam Nazir, the Chief Election Commissioner said that this matter should be left to the Election Commission for decision.
Meanwhile, Barrister Gohar said that they have not won a seat in Lahore and are asking for our seat, to which Azam Nazir replied that you should keep these things outside for the cameras.
The Chief Election Commissioner said that Ali Zafar is also filing your applications for tomorrow, he is consolidating all the applications.
Later, the Election Commission adjourned the hearing of the case till tomorrow.
