President Dr. Arif Alvi issued the Apostille Ordinance 2024, which aims to remove the ban on legal authentication for foreign public documents.
The Ordinance was promulgated for the convenience of citizens of Pakistan and persons residing abroad, and is intended to fulfill Pakistan’s obligations under the 1961 Hague Convention on Foreign Public Documents, which regulates the use of public documents abroad. Provides waivers in authentication/verification.
The Federal Cabinet approved Pakistan’s accession to the Apostolic Convention in March 2022, the Apostolic Convention came into effect for Pakistan from March 2023.
President Arif Alvi issued the ordinance under Article 89 (1) of the Constitution on the advice of the Prime Minister.
