The Lahore High Court has reserved its decision on the admissibility of the petition filed to stop the Senate elections due to non-awarding of specific seats to the Sunni Unity Council.

A 2-member bench headed by Justice Ali Baqranjafi of Lahore High Court heard the petition filed to stop the Senate elections due to non-availability of specific seats to the Sunni Unity Council. Advocate Azhar Siddique appeared in court on behalf of the petitioner.
The petitioner took the stand that despite the matter of specific seats being in the court, the schedule of Senate elections has been released, it is a constitutional requirement to get specific seats to the political party based on the winning candidates.
The petitioner pleaded with the court that the decision of the Election Commission should be declared null and void, the notification of the Election Commission to give specific seats to other political parties should be declared null and void, and a restraining order should be issued on the Senate elections until the court’s decision.
The court reserved its decision on the admissibility of the petition filed to stop the Senate elections due to non-awarding of specific seats to the Sunni Unity Council.
