China has condemned Indian media for airing an interview with a top Taiwanese official. The Chinese Embassy in New Delhi has also formally conveyed its concern to the Indian government.
A few Indian TV channels aired an interview with Joseph Wu, the head of Taiwan’s Foreign Affairs Office (Foreign Minister) on February 28. China has reacted strongly to this.
China’s leadership considers Taiwan to be its rebel or renegade province and Taiwan does not even have formal diplomatic relations with India as the Indian government also recognizes the ‘One China’ policy.
In its notice to TV channels, the Chinese embassy said that Taiwan is also part of China and is under the control of the Beijing government.
In response to the Chinese reaction, Taiwan’s “Foreign Minister” Joseph Wu has said that India and Taiwan are free and independent democracies and Taiwan is not a puppet for China in any way.
