Lahore: Chairman of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) Masroor Ahmed Khan says that there is no pressure from IMF to increase the price of gas, increasing the tariff is a compulsion otherwise the gas companies will be closed.

Chairman OGRA Masroor Ahmed Khan heard the request of Sui Northern Gas Company for increase in gas tariff.

Chairman Ogra said that the impression that the gas price is being increased due to IMF pressure is not correct, this request has come due to the increase in expenses and circular debt of the companies and our experts will consider it, but not necessarily increase it all. Whatever the increase, which will be effective from July, stakeholders and industrialists strongly opposed the proposed increase.

He said that already gas has been increased several hundred times, common man, commercial and industrial consumers are not able to pay the current gas bill, gas users are cutting the connection.

It should be noted that the gas prices have been increased twice in a year while Sui Northern authorities have submitted a request to OGRA for another 150% increase.
