The fire at Iqbal Market on MA Jinnah Road in Karachi was brought under control. The market had foam, resin and other goods shops.
A fire broke out in the market shops under Iqbal Plaza, a residential building near the Jama Cloth bus stop on Karachi’s busiest MA Jinnah Road.
Considering the severity of the fire, fire tenders from across the city were called in to control the fire.
Due to the severe nature of the fire, it was declared as a third-degree arson, a total of 7 shops were affected by the fire, 4 were partially damaged, while fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident.
During the rescue operation, the occupants of the building were moved to a safe place, the fire fighters faced difficulties due to smoke filling the building.
During the operation, volunteers used oxygen cylinders and smog masks, heavy smoke made it difficult to breathe in and around Iqbal Plaza.
There were no fire extinguishers and emergency exits inside the building, the fire was probably caused by a short circuit which was completely extinguished.
Chief Fire Officer KMC talks to the media
After the incident of fire in MA Jinnah Road Iqbal Market, Chief Fire Officer KMC Ishtiaq Ahmed while talking to the media said that the fire tenders of KMC had reached as soon as the fire was reported, the flats located on the upper floors of the residents. People were evacuated, luckily there was no loss of life in the incident.
Ishtiaq Ahmed said that there were no fire extinguishers and emergency exits inside the building, a total of 7 shops were affected by the fire, 3 were completely damaged and 4 were partially damaged. Fire safety audit is being conducted across the city. The number of this building had not come yet, we had to come here further, the fire was probably caused by a short circuit which has been fully extinguished.
